About St. David’s Church

Our Story

St. David’s began with families looking for a place to build a life together.

In the years following World War II, San Diego was growing rapidly. Veterans returned home, young families put down roots, and the expanding aerospace industry brought new people and new possibilities to the region. Among them were Episcopalians who dreamed of forming a church community in the growing neighborhood of Clairemont.

They began gathering in one another’s homes. As the congregation grew, they outgrew one home and then another. Eventually, they found their way to the hill in Bay Park and built a church.

In [YEAR], that church was destroyed by arson. The congregation chose reconciliation with the person responsible for the fire and began again. Together they built the church that stands on the hill today—a lasting witness to faith, forgiveness, resilience, and hope.

Generations later, the story continues as people gather here to worship, learn, pray, celebrate, find support, and share life together.

A Place for Community

Nestled at the top of the hill in San Diego’s Bay Park neighborhood, across from Longfellow Spanish Immersion School and just minutes from downtown, St. David’s is a place where people gather throughout the week to worship, learn, celebrate, find support, enjoy music, share meals, and spend quiet time in reflection.

A Place to Gather

Our church welcomes Sunday worship, concerts, weddings, memorial services, and other gatherings throughout the year.

Just steps away, the Community Mission Center offers three flexible gathering spaces that can be used separately or opened together to welcome more than 200 people for dinners, receptions, celebrations, meetings, classes, and community events.

The Education Center, home to Bay Park Academy Preschool, brings the energy, curiosity, and laughter of children to St. David’s every weekday.

Labyrinth

The labyrinth at St. David’s offers a quiet place for reflection, prayer, and renewal. An ancient pattern found in cultures around the world, a labyrinth has a single path leading to the center and back again—no wrong turns or dead ends.

The labyrinth is a community resource, open to the public and available to all. Walk at your own pace. Some come seeking stillness or carrying a question. Others come during times of grief, change, or uncertainty. Some simply come to walk.

Whatever brings you here, the labyrinth offers a place to quiet the mind, open the heart, and find a moment of peace.

Around the Grounds

Our Memorial Garden offers a peaceful place for remembrance and reflection. Little Free Libraries invite neighbors and passersby to take a book, leave a book, or stop for a moment.

Every day brings different people to St. David’s—children heading to preschool, neighbors attending meetings, friends sharing a meal, people gathering for worship or recovery, musicians and concertgoers, and those seeking a quiet place.
