Healing Prayer

Cthetaize2.jpg

Healing Prayer is offered during communion on the 2nd and 4th Sundays during the 8am service and on the 4th Sunday at the 10:30. After receiving communion, go to the chapel at the rear of the church and parish members of the Order of St. Luke the Physician will be there to offer anointing with oil and prayers of healing.

Parish members of the Order of St. Luke the Physician will offer anointing with oil and prayers of healing in the Chapel on the south side of the narthex (the entrance area of the church).

Prayer Quilt Squares

PQS, as it is known, was started in June, 2004 to make 12-inch quilted blocks, or squares for our military troops in Iraq.  We now make squares for the parish in general.  Once the squares have been blessed, they are placed in a basket at the back of the church for anyone to take.  Each embroidery floss knot, which is the quilting, contains a prayer that was said as it was tied.

Although we do not have the means to make quilts, in some respects the squares are better.  A couple of times they have been allowed in surgery with the recipient where a quilt would not have been.

No prior sewing experience is necessary to join us as there are many little tasks to be done.  We meet in the Education Center from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 11:00 a.m. normally on the first Tuesday and the third Saturday of the month.

Daughters of the King

The Daughters of the King is an order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church and have taken a vow for a life-long commitment of prayer, service, and evangelism dedicated to the spread of Christ’s Kingdom.

Please come to one of our meetings and share our experience of spiritual growth, learning, and fellowship. A meal is provided before we start our devotions, prayer, and study. Hope you will join us. We meet the first Monday night of each month at 5:45 in St. David's Mission Center.

Cursillo Communities

The San Diego Episcopal Cursillo community was founded to meet the growing spiritual needs of Episcopalians in San Diego County. It is part of a world-wide community which began with the Roman Catholic Cursillo movement. Its purpose is to help those in the church understand their individual callings to be Christian Leaders.

History of OSL

The Order of St. Luke was founded in 1932, in St. Luke’s Church, in San Diego, California, by the Reverend John Gayner Banks and his wife, Ethel Tulloch Banksas, as a Christian fellowship of clergy and lay people interested in sharing experiences of Jesus' healing ministry. Their vision was to draw all those involved in various healing ministries under the umbrella of a world, Christian healing fellowship, which would be based on the four Gospels of Jesus Christ. In 1953, it was incorporated in the state of California as The International Order of St. Luke the Physician.

The 20th century saw an awakening around the world to the tremendous resources of God's healing power that is available to all of us, not only through scientific medicine, but through believing prayer. As a result of this awakening, the Rev. Banks and his wife Ethel were inspired to organize The Order of St. Luke. Their vision was one of inclusion that would invite people of all faiths from around the world to join them.

From the time the Order of St. Luke was founded, our members have devoted themselves to conducting healing missions at home and abroad, lecturing, teaching, and praying for those who are ill in body and soul—everywhere inspiring new members to join our healing fellowship. As a result, today chapters of many different denominations exist throughout the world.

God's call to all of us is abundantly clear, and he awaits our joyful and enthusiastic response. Each one of us has some special healing gift to offer, and the Order of St. Luke is committed to helping each one of us realize that gift.

Meals-To-Go

This new ministry at St. David’s is to provide meals to parishioners who are ill, recovering from surgery or otherwise in need of this service. Our list of people who can take a meal to parishioners on a temporary basis is forming now. If you are willing and able to help, even just occasionally, please contact Louise Buck. You’ll be able to choose a date that works for you. You can reach Louise at (619) 275-2845 or better yet, e-mail her at louiseabuck@gmail.com.

Intercessory Prayer

Praying for others requires no meetings, no telephone calls, and no specific time of day to pray. If you would like to serve on this ministry please email Dotty Baty at cctdotty@san.rr.com or call her at 858-483-5015. If you have people you want to put on the Intercessory Prayer list, you can e-mail them to Dotty Baty cctdotty@san.rrcom or Carol Mahedy cmahedy@san.rr.com. No phone calls please. The Intercessory Prayer List includes the people on the prayers of the people read in church. However, putting people on the Intercessory pray list does not put them on the list read at church unless a specific request is submitted to the office. Gail Decker or Leslie Cohan take requests for prayers for the Daughters of the King Prayer list.

Need-A-Ride

This ministry involves a group of people who are willing to pick up parishioners and give them a ride to church or church functions. Just because you volunteer, it does not mean that you will have to do it all of the time. Rides will be organized by the driver’s proximity to the person needing a ride. If you can help with this important ministry, please call Jane or Lalo Illades at 619-237-9288 or email them at lillades@cox.net.

Food Pantry Update

Jubilee Grant Plans.

Last December St. David's received a Jubilee Grant of $2,500 to support Saint David's Food Pantry. The primary purpose of the grant was to improve food storage and handling. The Food Pantry needs freezer space, refrigerator space, and dry storage for our perishable items.

At the November Vestry Meeting an outline plan was presented, which includes purchasing a freezer and a refrigerator to be placed in the Education Center kitchen, and remodeling the small storage room at the end of the hall in the Education Center to provide storage for the food which does not require refrigeration. Purchase of the freezer and refrigerator was approved, and will occur as soon as the space is ready to receive them. More detailed plans for renovation of storage space will be prepared once all interested parties have had an opportunity to make sure that their missions will be accommodated. This includes such ministries as Sunday School, the Youth Group, the Preschool, Prayer Squares, Alcoholics Anonymous, and any other group now utilizing facilities in the North end of the Education Center.

Questions or comments should be directed initially to Lynn Ten Eyck the Food Pantry Coordinator, by e-mail at lteneyck@ucsd.edu or by telephone at (858) 277-6885.
