Welcome to St. David’s Sunday School!
Ministry
to our children is one of our long-standing commitments. Exploring God’s word and God’s world with our children
is a great joy for us.
Our curriculum for grades K-2 is Godly Play, a Montessori-based, Biblical storytelling program
using story figures and activities to encourage children to seek and find answers to their faith questions. For
grades 3-5, the curriculum is All Things New, also a Biblical storytelling program following the same concepts, but without
the use of the story figures. Some of our extra activities during the year include the “All Saints Presentation;” intergenerational
events such as Advent wreath-making and Pentecost craft-making; and the Palm Sunday pony rides.
Outreach projects have include
“Pennies for Peace” – a program which is part of Greg Mortenson’s charitable organization to educate
young girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan (you may remember the book Three Cups of Tea). The children
also participate in the Kid’s Alternative Gift Market at Christmas time. They raise money to purchase
trees, goats, etc., for families in poverty around the world. We do this every year.
The first
Sunday of every month (October through June) at St. David’s is “Children’s Sunday.”
Children read the lessons, sometimes sing the offertory, and gather around the altar for the Holy Eucharist.
The sermon is delivered especially for them in a conversational format.

We are truly blessed with wonderful children and great teachers! Our Christmas Eve and Epiphany pageants shared the holy stories in a beautifully spiritual and understandable way.
Many thanks to Kendra Thomas and Gillian Joshi for all the time and effort to organize the pageants and to our Youth
Directors, Katie Turley and Chris Moreno, and all our teachers who provided support.
We
have just finished the twelve days of Christmas, the second most holy season of the Church Year celebrating the birth of Jesus
- the coming of Emmanuel, "God with us." Now we have Epiphany, begun with the visit of the Magi, symbolizing
"God with us" being shown forth to all of humankind. This is a quieter time in our Church Year just
before we begin the seasons of Lent and Easter, the holiest and most active season of our Church Year. During
February both classes, Godly Play and All things New, will continue with the sacred stories of the Parables
and of Jesus' ministry.
We
are blessed to be able to work with St. David's children and thank you all for your support. Our Sunday morning schedule (which is posted on the classroom doors) continues to
be:
9:15 am Music with Miss Kendra - Mission Center 9:30 am Lesson Time - classrooms 10:25 am Parent pick-up - classrooms Parents are always welcome to join us for "Music Time" in the Mission Center.
Childcare is available every Sunday for our little ones from 8 am to 12 noon, downstairs in the Education Center.
Also, for those in the Godly Play class who do not want to come into church until communion, childcare is
available right after class. Snacks are provided. Please contact me at 619. 276.8522 or mcw95@san.rr.com with any questions, comments, or concerns,
or if you would like to join this joyful ministry.

Our Summer Faith Adventure, held July 12-18, with the theme of “Up…Toward
God With Friends” and the movie “Up” as the backdrop, was well attended and enjoyed. As always the Youth
were fantastic as our Adventure Guides. Thanks also to Katie Turley, Chris Moreno, and the rest of the behind-the scenes support
group who made everything a real success.
